Pushing On

It's been a busy week... err couple days across the resort. Hard to believe it's only Wednesday with all that's been going on. Wanted to give you all an update on our expected terrain for this weekend now that we have another couple days of snowmaking knocked out. Things have shaped up really well. The guns have been blowing steady on River Drive, Upper Spillway, Whitesides Crossing and Logjam since last weekend. River Drive is still a go for Thursday morning with C-Lift and the other trails coming online by the time Saturday rolls around. Thanks to the careful track packing done over the past month by our cat crew, we'll also have a couple natural snow trails ready to ride including Horseshoe and Duke's mixture.

The remaining trails that have yet to open still need some more work from mother nature and our team before their ready for skis and boards. The heavy rainfall right before the first snowfall has left some persistent wet spots that aren't holding snow as well as we'd like which hasn't allowed us to smooth out all of the water bars to our satisfaction. With that in mind, be mindful of closures and hazard markings when out on the slopes this weekend, they are put in place for your safety. As always, please ski and ride on open terrain only. I hope to see you out here this weekend!

Summit Rental Shop Update

With just over one week left until the season opener at Jackson Creek Summit, the final touches on our renovations are really starting to take shape. The rental shop is coming along nicely. The crew began assembly of the boot storage racks today and will start on ski and board racks tomorrow. Once the racking is assembled they'll start moving all of our new rental equipment into position. Then all we'll need to do is move the counters and benches into position, vacuum the new carpet, mop the new rubber floors and we'll be ready to rent on opening day! I think our guests are going to be blown away by the transformation when they show up on the 16th.

Summit Rental Shop progress as of 12/7/2022.

A Good Night

Last night was a good night. We received 10 inches of new snow and had 12 guns running at Black River Basin from midnight on. I went out with the crew this morning and got the first guns of the season running at Jackson Creek Summit. Funny enough the first gun we fired up happened to be labeled gun #1. It feels great to be making snow across both mountains.  As I write, the crew is still working on getting the snowmaking system fully up and running. It will be a good run from now until mid-day tomorrow when we’ll need to shut the guns down for warmer temps. The forecast for the weekend looks very good for snowmaking. We should be able to make a significant amount of snow, getting more terrain closer to opening.  About Powder Thursday  The snow we received in the last 24 hours is fairly wet and heavy, not exactly the UP powder we know and love. While not the best for deep powder runs, this wet snow will help to create a solid base, especially in the glades and on our steep...

July Already?!

In the month since I last sat down to chronicle all the activity on the mountain, we have accomplished A LOT. The team from Ruotsalas has completed pouring concrete and backfilled the foundations for Towers 2-10. This leaves Tower 1 and all four terminal foundations to complete but is still a big milestone as it allows us to revegetate the access roads created to reach tower locations on the side of the hill.  The rest of the pours are much more easily accessible via pre-existing and solid roadways, meaning rainy weather is much less of a threat to our forward progress.  Tower 9 foundation is backfilled with grass already growing. -7/8/2023 With the Tower foundations substantially completed, the focus shifts to the top and bottom terminal locations. At the bottom, we are undertaking a massive regrading project to improve skier access to the lift from both the east and the west sides. The loading mound of the former triple lift has been completely removed and redistributed at t...
